History
It started with a vision …
A Vision of a church that would be a "safe" place where hurting people could go, to connect with people and find the true meaning of life in a community of Christ followers.
Lighthouse Community Church, founded in the summer of 2000, has proven to be such a place. We have small groups as one of our foundations and a passion for telling everyone that we can reach about the Good News. God cares about people so much that he was willing to give us everything, including His Son, to bring us into true community.
About 20 people showed up for our first "celebration", in rented quarters at the Bluewater Optimist Hall at the far east side of Sarnia. Within weeks, we had brought Mark Crate onto the team as a full-time senior pastor, and secured rental accommodation in a church facility located at Modeland and Michigan Avenue.
Continuing to grow in numbers and in our mission, to introduce our friends, family and co-workers to Jesus, in the spring of 2001 we "moved" to our current home — a building owned by Redeemer Christian Reformed Church, on Blackwell Sideroad, just north of London Line.
It's here that we rent the facility on Saturday nights, with a "Kid’s Connection" program for youngsters starting from birth to grade 5, a youth program, and, of course, a service that includes music, and an insightful message that you can put to practical use throughout the week. It's also an opportunity to get connected with others who share this journey we call "life."
Indeed, an important part of the Lighthouse picture is our small groups— typically up to 10 people who may share a common interest or simply a yearning to build community.
The Lighthouse story continues to be written — the 50 acres of land God has provided to us will undoubtedly be part of the telling.
But most importantly, Lighthouse is about people. People who aren't perfect, but who have the desire to help one another along the way while we share with others what God has done, is doing and will do in our lives.
If this sounds like a place you'd like to check out (and even get to know), please do so. You're always welcome!
